Maribyrnong

The garden is a mix of individual plots for lease, and shared communal areas. When complete, the garden will be open regularly for everyone to enjoy. The garden will have a communal area, individual plots, orchard and children’s garden, and will also be a site to hold gardening and sustainable living workshops.

Timeline of Maribyrnong Community Garden;

Launch: The Garden will be launched and opened to all community members on Sunday the 22nd of July from 11am-2pm

June: Working bees at the garden will be held on Saturday the 2nd, 16th, 30th of June and Saturday the 1st of July, and will include free lunch and workshops. The working bee is open to everyone to participate in the garden, share lunch and participate in a workshop.


May: The garden is currently being constructed by a Work for the Dole group through Matchworks, Sunshine. The group is tidying the site and constructing raised garden beds, ramps, and concrete slabs for water tanks and sheds.


February: The decision to relocate Murnong community garden to Maribyrnong was supported by the Murnong Community gardeners, and was passed by Council in February 2012. The design for the garden has been developed in conjunction with the Murnong Community gardeners.
